Our team moved quickly after the 7.7 magnitude earthquake in Myanmar. We are dedicated to electrifying
last-mile communities, and this meant beyond just political instability of Kachin State. It meant bringing solar power to earthquake victims in Sagaing, Shan, and Mandalay regions.

Sagaing Earthquake Emergency Shelter 1

This was our first earthquake response installation,
first of many.

Our local team connected with the community networks of first responders and community-led rescue efforts. We immediately identified this emergency shelter with urgent electricity needs and got to work. And we successfully brought electricity to the families at the shelter on April 10, 2025 – 12 days after the earthquake.

We had to move fast, so we first deployed our portable solar generator to address the immediate power needs.

Our partners Footprint Project and SmartAID were essential. They brought disaster response expertise, we brought local know-how. Together, we brought critical electricity access to hardest-to-reach communities.

Atutu brought energy to an emergency shelter with a total of 220 earthquake victims along with volunteers who help manage operations.

With our partnership, the shelter is now able to guarantee:

✔ night time lighting

✔ a power source to charge devices for the families taking shelter

✔ administrative appliances (such as laptops and printers)

✔ on-site water filtration system that is providing clean drinking water to the families

At the same time, we began building our mobile microgrid. Once it was complete, we replaced the portable solar generator with our solar microgrid to fully power the emergency shelter.
