2024 Northern Kachin Residential Installation 2

Within the Myitkyina District of Kachin is a resettlement camp of roughly 205 people that had lacked any access to the national electricity grid. The families had been forced to flee their homes due to conflict throughout the Kachin region.

In late May of 2024, Atutu technicians assessed the village and began their work in installing 41 DC Home Systems for the residents of the community. The systems allow for access to lighting and usb device charging, providing a leap in security for residents.

  1. Wildlife encounters had been a concern due to the dense forestation in the surrounding areas and the presence of predatory animals. Lighting at night allows for better visibility and a peace of mind.

  2. Farmers now had agency in cultivating their crops, no longer being restricted to daylight to prepare crops for the market. They have a choice in their hours and are no longer constrained to dawn and dusk.

  3. Students could now study at any hour, enabling them to prioritize tasks without the limitation of sunlight hours. They can choose between chores, study, and leisure at their own desire.

With the addition of lighting, educators and students are able to schedule time rather than sacrificing one task over the other.

“We are very happy for this opportunity to accelerate our access to energy. It is a welcomed change in our community”
